Absolut Unique – Outdoor
Client: Pernod Ricard (Absolut Vodka)
Agency: Ogilvy
Technology: Flash, Tablet, Projection
Due to the success of the Absolut Unique – Facebook App, Ogilvy and Absolut decided to bring the experience to the people. The solution, an application run on tablets by promotion staff who interacted directly with customers in popular Auckland bars. The customer could create their bottle right there and then and have it projected on a massive Absolut bottle canvas.
Role: It was my task to port the existing Facebook App over to tablet and build a gallery application to run on the projector. The port ran smoothly thanks to Windows 8 with just a few tweaks to hit states to make it more touch friendly. It was also decided that because the customer was not on Facebook, their bottle image should be emailed to them. I worked with the back end developer to make a new gallery per bar and append the bar to the database entries.
The projection application had two modes, gallery and new bottle. By default it would cycle through a gallery of created bottles. At any stage it could be interrupted with a new bottle and then display that sequence. The new bottle would stay up for around 60 seconds and then kick back to the gallery. The application would poll every 5 or so seconds for a new bottle. The back end handled adding new bottles to the gallery feed and letting the application know when a new bottle was available to display.
